Privacy Policy — Gloss

Last updated: 20 June 2026 · NYRAI LLC

Gloss is a minimalist reader for the things you already read — DRM-free EPUBs, PDFs, text and Markdown notes, and web articles — that adds AI "margin notes" in the voice of an author or an expert guide. This policy explains exactly what leaves your device.

Your content stays on your device

Files and articles you import — EPUBs, PDFs, text/Markdown, and saved web pages — are stored only on your device. The full document is never uploaded to our servers or anyone else's.

What we send when you request a gloss

When you highlight a passage and ask for a margin note, we send only:

This is sent over an encrypted connection to our backend (Supabase), which calls Anthropic's Claude API to generate the note. We never send the whole document — only the highlighted passage and its bounded context, regardless of whether the source is a book, a PDF, a personal note, or a web article.

Account data

To sign in and meter usage we store your email address and a user ID. We keep a usage log (timestamp, model, token counts) to enforce limits and understand cost. We do not sell data, run ads, or use third-party trackers.

AI-generated content

Author "voices" in Gloss are an AI interpretation, not the real author, and may be inaccurate. Notes are generated by Anthropic's Claude; see Anthropic's policies for how they handle API data.

Your choices

You can delete your highlights and notes in-app, and request account deletion and a data export from Settings. Subscriptions are managed in your Apple Account.
