Gloss — Support

Gloss is a minimalist reader that adds AI margin notes — in an author's or an expert's voice — to the things you already read: EPUBs, PDFs, text and Markdown notes, and web articles. Need help? Email [email protected].

Frequently asked

What can I read in Gloss?

DRM-free EPUBs and PDFs you import, plain-text and Markdown notes you create or paste, and web articles you save by URL. A free copy of Meditations ships built in, and you can download more free classics from inside the app.

Why can't I open my Kindle / Apple Books book?

Those files are DRM-protected. Gloss reads DRM-free content only — your own EPUB/PDF files, Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, Leanpub, Smashwords, or author-direct downloads.

How do I add something to read?

Tap + in the Library to import an EPUB or PDF, paste or write a note, add a web article by URL, or browse free classics. You can also use "Open in Gloss" / the share sheet from Files or any app holding an .epub or .pdf.

How do margin notes work?

Highlight a passage, then choose Gloss, Go deeper, Define, or Ask…. The note appears in the right margin (iPad) or an anchored card (iPhone), and is saved as marginalia you can reopen anytime. The voice is an AI interpretation — of the author when known, or an expert guide otherwise — not the real author.

What's free vs paid?

Reading is free forever. Your first 10 glosses are free; after that, Gloss Unlimited ($5.99/mo or $49.99/yr) unlocks unlimited notes. Manage subscriptions in your Apple Account.
